Hanuman Chalisa is a set of 40 poetic verses dedicated to Lord Hanuman, a devotee of Lord Rama. Hanuman Chalisa was written and composed by Goswami Tulsidas, a great saint in 1497 -1623 while he was imprisoned by Aurangzeb, a Mughal emperor. Aurangzeb challenged Tulsidas to show the Lord to him, then Tulsidas replied that Ram can only be seen with true devotion. The poet, Tulsidas ingeniously replied that seeing Rama was not possible without true devotion. As a result, he was imprisoned by Aurangzeb and Tulsidas have written magnificent verses of the Hanuman Chalisa in that prison.
